![]() I really need help with these word problems in Algebra:[? Hi,thanks for helping:] In the next problems,if there is not enough information to solve the problem or if it has no solution, say so. If extra information is given, identify it.( I dont even understand the instructions:/) 1.A collection of 30 coins worth$5.50 consists of nickels, dimes, and quarters. There are twice as many dimes as nickels. How many quarters are there? 2.A triangle has a perimeter 29cm. The sides have lengths,in centimeters, that are consecutive odd integers. What is the longest side? 3.A school cafeteria sells milk at 25 cents per carton and salads at 45 cents each. One week the total sales for these items were $132.50. How many salads were sold that week? I know this might be a lot,but I really dont know. And this is the only place I can come to to ask. THANKS SO SO MUCH!! (1) N = number of nickels Total 30, so N+D+Q = 30 Substitute back in to solve. (2) Perimeter is 29. (s) + (s+2) + (s+4) = 29. Solve for s, then the longest side is s+4. (3) Confusing, you cannot tell the number of salads without knowing something about the number of cartons of milk sold. If the number of cartons of milk is M, and the number of salads is S, then your total sales are: 0.25*M + 0.45*S = 132.50 You can solve for S in terms of M, but no further based on the information given. I checked to see if they're assuming that everyone bought one of each, but that doesn't work out to an even number. |
